Assobio conference at Marca: organic food is a safe market

The total value of packaged organic produce sold in Italian hypermarkets and supermarkets in 2016 stood at more than 1 billion euros (compared to 411 million euros in 2008), equivalent to a 3% share of total food sales. In 2016, 74% of Italian households purchased organic products (1.2 million more than in 2015), with millennials and the 30-44 age bracket above the national average. 68% of these are frequent users.
The trend in these last two years has doubled compared to the average growth rate over the period 2010-2014. These are the key data that will be presented at a conference to be held on 19 January during Marca 2017 (Opera Conference Hall, 2.00 pm) organised by ADM (Modern Distribution Association) and AssoBio (Italian organic produce processing and distribution association). The conference will also address the crucial issue of guarantees and will provide a review of the best practices adopted by some of the leading retailers and a number of supply chain players. In particular, these include the transparency tools recognised as Organic Innovation of the year in 2016 by the European Technology Platform for organic food and farming and available to all companies operating in the organic food market.
